Tarangire National Park is truly remarkable for its renowned abundance of wildlife, notably elephants, and stands as one of the prime birding locations in East Africa. Its name is derived from the Tarangire River, which runs through the park, spanning an expansive area of 2,850 square kilometers. Ranking as the 6th largest national park in northern Tanzania.

Tarangire National Park is a popular destination on a Tanzania safari due to its abundant elephant population, impressive wildlife migrations, iconic baobab trees scattered across the open acacia, and the intriguing sight of African pythons climbing trees.

WHEN TO VISIT?

This season lasts from November to May each year, The vegetation during this period is lush and abundant, presenting a stunning landscape. Additionally, rates and prices may be lower as it is considered the low season. The wet season also offers excellent opportunities for bird watching as migratory birds are present during this time.

GETTING THERE

The Park can be accessed by Road or Air. To reach the park, you can take a 121 km journey on a tarmac road from Arusha city. Alternatively, air travel is an option, with access from Kilimanjaro International Airport, situated 46 km from Arusha. There are also chartered flights available from Arusha to Kuro Airstrip within the park.

ACTIVITIES

The activities at the park encompass day game drives, night game drives, walking safaris, filming and photographing, bush meals, hot air balloon safaris, birdwatching, and picnicking.

Tarangire National Park offers a range of accommodation options, including public and private camps, both permanent and seasonal. Additionally, there are permanent lodges situated both within the park and in the surrounding areas.
